Putin ‘probably’ approved Litvinenko murder
An inquiry into the death of Alexander Litvinenko says Russian President Vladimir Putin ‘probably’ approved the murder of the former Russian spy. Litvinenko was granted asylum in the UK, and worked for the UK’s MI6 secret service. He died in 2006 after drinking tea poisoned with radioactive polonium. Russia says it won’t extradite the two men accused of killing him.
Daesh threatens oil attacks
Daesh has threatened to attack more oil facilities in Libya. Earlier, the terrorist group set fire to at least two storage tanks at the Harouge Oil Operations facilities. Daesh has gained ground in Libya since the country fell into political turmoil following the death of Muammar Gaddafi five years ago.
European stocks post slight recovery
European stocks recovered slightly on Thursday at the opening of markets. On Wednesday, some European and Asian stocks fell to their lowest levels in nearly seven years. Asian stocks also opened with an uptick on Thursday, before closing the day down. Investors are worried about low oil prices and the slowdown in the Chinese economy. On Tuesday, China reported that its economic growth was the country’s weakest in 25 years. And on Monday, Brent Crude oil dropped to below 28 dollars a barrel.
‘Planet Nine’ in our space
Scientists say they’ve found evidence that there may be another planet in our solar system. They haven’t actually seen it, but they think it exists because of the orbit pattern of objects in the region behind Neptune, For now they’re calling it Planet Nine. It’s 10 times bigger than Earth and it takes up to 20-thousand years to orbit the sun once. Only two other planets -Uranus and Neptune-have been discovered in modern times.
