Murukku is one of the oldest snacks in Tamilnadu. Though one variation of murukku which is also called Thenkuzhal which is comparable to Chakli in Karnataka and western India, the other variation Kai Murukku is unique to Tamilnadu and Southern Kerala. Making Kai murukku is an art and till date this snack has its prominence in South Tamilnadu households and in Tamil weddings. This spiral fried goodness is made on a large scale for the last 30+ years in Tirunelveli Tamilnadu by small Murukku shops, which distribute to rest of Tamilnadu, other states and even some export them to other countries. A healthy fried snack option compared to the other fried savouries like potato chips.
