STORM SURVIVORS! The Viking Sky's Heart-Stopping 100 Meter Escape
The Viking Sky cruise ship faced a severe power outage while battling strong winds and rough seas off the coast of Norway, in an area called Hustadvika. The ship, carrying over 1,300 passengers and crew, was dangerously close to running aground after losing propulsion and steering. The failure was caused by a loss of oil pressure in the diesel generators due to rough sea conditions, which led to a complete blackout. The crew managed to restart the engines just in time, preventing the ship from crashing into the rocky shore. Helicopter evacuations took place throughout the day, and after hours of effort, the ship was eventually towed to safety. Despite the dangerous conditions, no lives were lost, though 19 passengers were injured. The incident highlighted serious operational, technical, and procedural shortcomings aboard the ship.
