NBS refer to the conservation, restoration, and sustainable management of ecosystems to address societal challenges and it can provide multiple benefits, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions, enhancing biodiversity, and reducing the risk of disasters. Nature-based solutions have gained significant attention in recent years as a cost-effective and sustainable approach to addressing CCA and DRR. Effective interventions of NBS such as green roofs, bioswales, and rain gardens in places like China and New York have resulted in increased water availability, improved soil fertility, and reduced erosion, reduce flooding, improve water quality, and provide multiple co-benefits, enhancing the city's resilience to climate change and helping local communities adapt better and reduce their vulnerability to natural disasters.
In this context, Sphere India Academy in collaboration with Climate Action Resource Network – Asia Pacific (CARN-AP), organized a virtual discourse on the topic "Leveraging Nature-Based Solutions for Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction” on 09th March 2023 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM (IST) or 9:30 AM -10:30 AM (GMT) to explore the possibilities of nature-based solutions in disaster risk reduction in India and beyond
