We discuss the story of Nam Phan, a retired mixed martial artist, who once competed in the UFC and now has exhibited a noticeable decline in his speech over the years, as a potential sign of CTE. Initially clear and articulate, his speech has become increasingly slurred and slow. There is marked deterioration in his speech and this decline is likely attributed to repeated head trauma sustained during years of sparring and fighting in UFC and MMA.
