A recent scientific publication from bee researchers in Germany, with the title Honey bee behaviours within the hive: Insights from long-term video analysis should be compulsory reading for all beekeepers.
The research is based on long-term video recordings of sideways-views inside cells in combs and provides amazing short video clips of bee behaviour that many beekeepers have read about worker behaviour but rarely, if ever, see. The videos provide views of many of the aspects of social behaviour in colonies, including brood care, thermoregulation and mouth-to-mouth feeding by nurses to larvae.
The research is a milestone in the communication and understanding of honey bee social behaviour. The results of the research are important contributions to research, education and increasing awareness of the behaviour of honey bees.
