The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced that its governorship primary election in Edo State was inconclusive and will be rerun to determine the party's flagbearer for the September 2024 governorship election. According to Felix Morka, the national publicity secretary of the APC, the decision to conduct a new primary was reached during an emergency meeting of the APC National Working Committee (NWC) held on Tuesday, February 20, 2024. The party cited incomplete processes in the initial primary election.
In the initial primary, Governor Hope Uzodimma, chairman of the Edo primary election committee, declared Dennis Idahosa, a member of the House of Representatives, as the winner after he garnered 40,483 votes. However, discrepancies arose when returning officers in various local government areas (LGAs) announced different winners, leading to contention among governorship hopefuls.
Among the contenders disputing the outcome, Sunday Dekeri was announced as the winner by some returning officers, while Monday Okpebholo, a senator representing Edo Central and a governorship aspirant, claimed victory with over 6,000 votes. Meanwhile, former Edo State Governor and current Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, addressed rumors surrounding zoning within the party ahead of the rerun primary scheduled for today. The outcome of this primary will shape the APC's strategy for the upcoming gubernatorial election in Edo State. 🗳️🏛️ #APC #EdoState #GovernorshipPrimary
