We visit Meno A Kwena to understand why it is such a unique and special place, and what to expect on your visit here.
As you walk in, you instantly want to take off your shoes and feel the cool white sand between your toes (except in October!). There are several inviting lounges with comfortable day beds adorned with colourful scatter cushions and Persian rugs - all with magnificent views. The plunge pool is built from natural rock from the area and is the perfect place to spend your siesta time, watching the elephant drinking below.
The tents are very spacious and have gauze sides and doors affording open views. They have full en suite bathrooms plus unique outside showers and loos. The main area features an open tented dining tent and lounge, looking across to the boma area.
In the dry season (about July to October), Meno A Kwena is the perfect base for an armchair safari as wildlife comes down to drive at the Boteti River or waterhole in great numbers. In the Green Season you can head into the Makgadikgadi National Park in search of the zebra migration.
Meno A Kwena offers elevated views across the Boteti River to the Makgadikgadi National Park. You can undertake walking tours with Bushmen, providing an amazing insight into their culture, the area’s native plants and spectacular wildlife. Of course, there are game drives into Makgadikgadi National Park plus a floating hide below the lodge for game viewing on the river.
The Boteti River is one of the furthest reaches of the Okavango Delta and is a lifeline for wildlife throughout the dry season
Meno A Kwena offers seasonal sleep-out adventures in the Makgadikgadi.
It has worked with the Botswana government to create a development programme with the Xai Xai community, using tourism to help sustain their traditional heritage. All staff has been hired from the local area, bringing employment and growth to an otherwise rural area. The camp supports Mareamaoto village and school, meaning you are doing good on your holiday.
