Geely has expanded its Galaxy lineup with the introduction of the Starship 7 EM-i plug-in hybrid vehicle, a crossover comparable in size to the Toyota RAV4. This innovative model features a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a 160-kilowatt electric motor. Buyers can choose between two battery options: an 8.5-kilowatt-hour lithium phosphate battery offering up to 34 miles of electric-only range or a larger 19.0-kilowatt-hour battery that extends the range to 75 miles.
Despite its advanced technology, the Starship 7 comes with an astonishingly low starting price of thirteen thousand seven hundred forty-five dollars, equivalent to ninety-nine thousand eight hundred Chinese yuan. For comparison, the Polestar 4, another well-regarded crossover, begins at forty-one thousand dollars in China, highlighting the exceptional value the Starship 7 offers.
Under the hood, the 1.5-liter engine produces one hundred nine horsepower and one hundred pound-feet of torque. While those figures might seem modest, the engine boasts a world-record thermal efficiency of forty-six point five percent, thanks to an advanced air swirl system that optimizes fuel combustion. The engine is paired with Geely's proprietary electric-dedicated hybrid transmission, which integrates a starter-generator motor, a primary drive motor, and cutting-edge control electronics. Combined output reaches two hundred fifteen horsepower, driving the front wheels.
The Starship 7 comes in multiple trims, starting with the Departure Edition and Explorer Edition, both featuring the smaller battery. Upgrading to the larger battery costs approximately two thousand dollars more. The fully equipped Pilot Edition, offering luxury-level amenities, still costs only eighteen thousand three hundred dollars.
Inside, the Starship 7 surprises with its upscale cabin. Standard features include leather seats, a ten point two-inch digital instrument display, a fourteen point six-inch central touchscreen, and in-car Wi-Fi. Higher trims add surround-view cameras, ambient lighting, and massaging seats with multiple adjustment options.
Although it is unlikely the Starship 7 will reach the United States due to tariffs and changing electric vehicle credits, its competitive pricing might attract buyers in nearby markets like Mexico, making it worth considering for adventurous travelers.
