When running an engine lathe and taking heavy cuts, it helps to have coolant on the tool to keep temps down. I am cutting 304 stainless steel here and this is almost 3/16" depth of cut with a carbide inserted tool. Located with a 4 jaw chuck and supported with the tailstock this work is mesmerizing to watch. The huge chips land in the coolant on the lathe and make a puff of steam from the heat they contain.
