A Cardin Collection Designed to please
Pierre Cardin's Evolution Line by Sergio Altieri, shown Monday 16th March, was praised by fashion pundits for being a truly gracious evolution, in the Cardin style but with modern updates. The line is clean and classic, but not minimal. The show, which was held in Cardin's "Espace" area near the Concorde, began well with a beautiful long brown coat, in smooth wool and fastened with a gold `X.' It set the trend. Sober colours such as grays, bronzes, browns and plums were combined with wonderful fabrics from mohair to smooth wools and velvets. Altieri's shorter skirt suits with tied-fastenings worked well with high-heeled boots. Tweed easy jackets, touches of fake fur and the perfect pinstripe suit with an interesting blouse completed a great scene. Evening wear ranged from black velvet trouser suits to
Cardin-style whimsicality such as the black velvet fringed dress and lampshade hat, or an asymmetric batwing dress with a fringed beanie. Overall outfits were slinky, see-through and of floor-sweeping length, epitomising the style made famous by chanteuse Marlene Dietrich.
