R. Kelly’s latest move has the music world buzzing as he reportedly exposes Jay Z to federal investigators in a bid for early release. Kelly’s attorney, Jennifer Bonjean, argues that the PROTECT Act, which extends the statute of limitations indefinitely for crimes committed after 2003, shouldn’t apply to Kelly’s case because his actions occurred in the 90s, before the act was in place. The law doesn’t retroactively cover crimes from before its enactment.
