The U.N's international war crimes tribunal for former Yugoslavia
on Tuesday (16/5) took over the Bosnian government's case of
alleged atrocities against Bosnian Serb leader, Radovan Karadzic
and two top colleagues. President Judge Adolphus Karibi-Whyte of
Nigeria said the three-man tribunal drew on World War Two
precedents which allowed Japanese and German political and
military leaders to be prosecuted for war crimes. Karadzic,
Bosnian Serb army commander Ratko Mladic and Mico Stanisic, the
former political boss the the Bosnian Serb police force, are
expected to be indicted on charges of genocide and other war
crimes by the end of this year.
