Subaru CVT & Diff Fluid Change 2009 - 2015
The Subaru Lineartronic CVT uses a typical chain and pulley arrangement, along with a planetary gear set for forward and reverse. Vehicle take off is smoother due to the use of a torque converter, but it retains CVT efficiency because the lock-up converter clutch is applied at all times, except for when coasting or at very low speeds.
There are two main versions of the CVT. The TR690 is Generation I, while the shorter and lighter TR580 second-generation transmission was introduced in 2012. It brought a number of improvements, along with altered fluid change and level checking procedures.
