The fall of the empire didn’t happen overnight – it took decades of problems. Economic troubles, too many wars, and power struggles weakened Rome. In 410 AD, the Visigoths even sacked Rome. Finally, in 476 AD, the last emperor, Romulus Augustulus, was overthrown. But the Eastern Roman Empire, or Byzantium, lasted until 1453.
