Padmasana, Lotus Posture, is perhaps the single most important, universally adored, and most practical yoga posture. Become immovable in lotus and the inner world opens to you. But remember that caution and patience are required from you when learning this mighty asana. Lotus both gives and requires the ability to thoroughly externally rotate the heads of the thigh bones in the hip sockets. Maintain a strong uddhyana bandha lift of the navel in order to ensure that your pelvic base is both upright and neutral. Feel the circular action in the hip joint as the leading action when bending each knee and drawing the foot towards the navel. Cross the lower legs as high up the thighs as possible. Imagine that the knees are magnetically drawn towards each other, towards the middle line. Be careful not to strain your knees and/or ankles, you can do this by gradually building up how long you stay in the posture.
