The Earth's moon reached perigee, the closest part of the moon's elliptical orbit on 03-19-2011. This will not occur again for another 18 years. The apparent size of the moon was 14% larger during this event. The moon caused higher than normal tides and illuminated the earth at night far brighter than normal for a full moon.
