In 2006, residents from various development corridors around Delhi (future CWG and Metro sites, etc) were relocated and resettled in the Savda Ghevra Resettlement Colony. Savda Ghevra is located ~ 30km West of New Delhi. Residents were allotted either 12.5 or 18.5 sq m plots and nothing else. No social amenities, infrastructure, or sanitation.
Today, many residents have built their own houses, which are 1-room structures housing 4 or more family members. Yet, access to formal housing finance limits construction durability and housing expansion.
AHI hopes to offer home loan products for incremental housing improvements.
