Today:
Sunday begins with showery rain across Scotland. Most other places are dry but we've got mist and fog patches in the south and south west.It's a mild start in the north but chilly in the south.
Through the rest of the day rain will turn heavy and persistent across Scotland while Northern Ireland, Wales and England stay dry with mist and fog clearing to reveal some winter sunshine in the south. It will be a mild day with temperatures of 5C to 10C.
Tonight:
Outbreaks of rain will turn heavy and persistent across Scotland with snow in the far north. Northern Ireland, England and Wales will stay dry but with a fair amount of cloud and freshening winds. The far south will have dense fog patches but generally much less fog around tonight with gusts of wind reaching 60MPH for western Scotland. Temperatures will be cold in the far north and south but most places will be mild at 5C to 8C.
Tomorrow:
Heavy rain will last all day across Scotland with snow in the far north. Showery rain will arrive across Northern Ireland and the far north of northern England later. The rest of England and Wales will stay dry with a few bright spells. A mild day away from northern Scotland where it will be cold. Temperatures range from 0C to 10C north to south. Watch out for strong winds in central and northern regions with gusts reaching 60MPH in places.
Outlook:
Tuesday (New Years Eve) Gale force winds and outbreaks of rain pushing southwards followed by snow showers for Scotland.
Wednesday (New Years Day) Heavy rain for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Sleet and snow possible on the north edge. Very cold with snow showers for Scotland.
Thursday: Much colder with snow showers in the north and around coasts.
