A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after three people were killed during a major incident in Nottingham early this morning.

Another three people were injured when a van attempted to run them down in a linked attack, according to Nottinghamshire constabulary.

A series of roads have been cordoned off and the city’s tram network has been suspended.

Police said in a statement that officers were called to Ilkeston Road, west of the city’s centre, where they found two people dead in the street just after 4am.

One person described seeing a young man and woman being stabbed at about 4am after hearing “blood-curdling” screams.
