Since the popularization of needleless IV connectors in the 1990s, the standard for valve disinfection has been a manual scrub of the luer access valves with an alcohol pad before each access. For a variety of reasons, compliance with scrub-the-hub protocols is often poor and, from a practical perspective, almost impossible to monitor. Passive disinfection changes the game—no longer relying on an individual’s vigilance and scrubbing technique for effective disinfection- variation in technique is eliminated. With Curos, the user needs only to luer lock a port protector on each I.V. access point to effectively disinfect the valve and protect it between accesses. The bright green cap allows for the easy monitoring of compliance.
