In the past three decades since the introduction of catheter-based ablation procedures for medically refractory arrhythmias, tremendous advances have been made in the field of interventional cardiac electrophysiology. These advances have dramatically increased our understanding of arrhythmia mechanisms, normal and abnormal cardiac anatomy, and ablation biomechanics. Lately, various catheter-based procedures have been developed to replicate the success of the operative approach. This paradigm shift has occurred for the intervention of both supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmias.
