Al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri was killed in Kabul, where he was found sheltering in the home of a senior member of the Taliban.
Al-Zawahiri was one of the world's most wanted terrorists and suspected mastermind of the September 11, 2001 attacks.
The Taliban said the US drone strike was in violation of international principles.
