Awaken's newest release, "Out of the Shadows", is an epic 90-minute double album, featuring guest performances from guitarist Eric Gillette (Neal Morse Band), and percussionist Gumbi Ortiz (Al DiMeola). The compositional team of DeGrossa/Marrone/Colyer is new for this second album, which has already started garnering praise and new fans.
Performing original melodic progressive metal, Awaken was founded in 2009 by band leader Glenn DaGrossa from the ashes of the band Lazarus. Current bassist Eddie Jucius and drummer Mike Marrone joined soon after, forming the core of the band.
Awaken was signed to the European label Mausoleum Records in June 2012, and their self-titled debut album was released in November 2012 to great reviews worldwide. Kerrang! magazine hailed them as “one of the quintessential metal bands of our time.”
New keyboardist/vocalist Andrew Colyer (Circuline, Cell15, 3.2 featuring Robert Berry) brings a whole new dimension to the band's compositions and live performances.
