Located at the mouth of Salt Lake City's Emigration Canyon, Utah's Hogle Zoo is a 42-acre (17 ha) Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) accredited facility. Hogle (pronounced "ho-gul") Zoo is one of the largest zoos in the Intermountain West, and houses over 800 animals representing 250 species.
The zoo is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization and is supported through Salt Lake County's Zoo Arts and Parks Tax and private donations raised by the Utah Zoological Society and the zoo's board of directors.
Exhibits
African Savanna
Surrounded by many of the iconic species that live on the plains of East Africa, the African Savanna exhibit is Utah’s Hogle Zoo’s largest exhibit at 4.5 acres. It’s also the first exhibit guests will see as they enter the zoo. Don’t forget to take a ride on the Eccles Express, that travels around the African Savanna and Wild Utah exhibits.
Asian Highlands
The Asian Highlands exhibit depicts a small Himalayan village nestled in the mountains of the continent of Asia. Here, guests will get a spectacular view of the animals that are native to this area such as Snow Leopards, Amur Tigers, Amur Leopards, and Chinese red pandas.
Great Apes
Guests have the chance to interact with the resident gorilla troop and Bornean orangutan families at the Great Apes exhibit, featuring both indoor and outdoor areas for their comfort and wellbeing. Depending on how warm or cold the weather is, guests will find the apes in one of the yards in the summer, or in the indoor spaces in the winter.
High Desert Oasis
High Desert Oasis is home to four animal species and has three yards, which means one species often hangs out behind the scenes. The High Desert Oasis animals rotate areas throughout the day, so check back throughout your visit to see which animals are in the outdoor spaces.
Primate Forest
Primate Forest houses several species of primates from both the Old World monkeys that can be found in the Middle East, Africa, and parts of Asia, and New World monkeys that are found in South and Central America.
Rocky Shores
Inspired by the Pacific Northwest, Rocky Shores is an extensive exhibit that features bears, eagles, sea lions, seals, and otters.
Small Animal Building
Our Small Animal Building (SAB) houses numerous species of small birds, reptiles, mammals, amphibians, and arachnids.
Wild Utah
The Aline W. Skaggs Wild Utah exhibit is unlike any other zoo experience. With personal animal experiences, hands-on conservation opportunities, and behind-the-scenes access to animal care, guests can engage with Utah wildlife like never before.
Spanning three fresh acres on the east side of Utah’s Hogle Zoo, Wild Utah opens a new area to enjoy at the zoo and a new space to create champions for wildlife.
