The so-called Islamic State (ISIS) launched a ruthless campaign of terror in Iraq in August 2014, attempting to wipe out the Yazidi people – a religious minority group in the country.
The violence displaced more than 400,000 people and massacred over 5,000 men and older women, while more than 6,000 women and children were tortured and trafficked as sex slaves.
Global’s Jeff Semple has the story of one Yazidi family who survived and eventually fled to Canada, but without one of their daughters.
