The Ford Capri is Ford & VW's sequel to the well received Explorer EV (Which happened to be one of my favourite cars I've reviewed this year!) Based on the MEB platform, it shares many parts and especially its batteries, motors & much of the technology with siblings from VW, Skoda, Audi, and Cupra. However, Ford have put their own spin on the design and have included many elements which you won’t find in the other MEB vehicles.
I tested out the Extended Range 77kWh RWD Premium model, a smaller 52kWh model will be available from next year starting at just under £42K. Although the Capri is a coupe-SUV, it is more practical than the Explorer, which is around 20cm shorter.
The Capri has caused much controversy, mainly due to its name. Although many cars in recent years have been reinvented as different models, like Ford's own Puma, the Renault Scenic, and going further back retro reinventions such as the Beetle, MINI and Fiat 500. As an EV Coupe-SUV the Capri does the job well, and it certainly has elements inspired by the original models too, it just ruffled some feathers whilst doing so!
As always, a huge thank you to Pye Motors for supporting my channel, Especially to Dan Park the Kendal Sales Manager in inviting me to review the latest models! I visited their Morecambe dealership, but they do also have showrooms in Kendal & Barrow In Furness too.
