Auction 1901 (June-2019), lot-189, JH-36222, Louis XV tortoise musical 35" clock by St. Germain, musical figural clock striking the quarter-hours on a pair of nested bells, and playing on the hour one of 7 tunes on flute/organ movement in base (with restorations), in red tortoiseshell with ormolu accents, figures of Zeus as a disguised bull being draped in flowers by a seated Europa as well as a lady's attendant and cupid kneeling on a cloud, enamel dial with black Roman hour markers and Arabic minutes, the unsigned movement of round construction with silk thread suspension, and with quarter snail and rack assembly on the rear plate, music is currently played on 14 sheet metal flutes, actuated by a wooden pin drum, driven by a chain fusee mechanism, which turns the drum and powers the bellows in the base. Base of clock to top Europa's head measures 35 inches x 21 inches at the clock's widest point, circa 1750. Gilt ormolu figures are attributed to Jean Joseph de Saint Germain.
