On 16 October 1963, Beatles Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr were interviewed by ITN's John Edwards about their upcoming slot in that year's Royal Variety Performance. Paul McCartney was asked if he or the band had any special changes in mind for the set. John Lennon meanwhile was asked, in response to a comment by Lord Privy Seal Ted Heath, if he would be altering his speech. Lennon replied as only Lennon could.
