Every year on the 16th of October, we observe World Food Day. This day is dedicated to raising awareness about the significance of a healthy diet and shedding light on the challenges faced by millions of people worldwide due to their limited access to nutritious food.
The primary purpose of celebrating World Food Day on a global scale is to advocate for policies and programs aimed at eradicating hunger, ensuring that future generations are not confronted with food-related issues and malnutrition.
However, this mission has become increasingly challenging in the face of growing concerns about climate change and security issues in many parts of Africa.
World Food Day serves as an opportunity to advance Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG 2), which focuses on achieving 'Zero Hunger.' This day encourages governments, policymakers, stakeholders, and organizations to implement policies and programs to address global hunger challenges. It serves as a reminder to promote sustainable agriculture, ensuring that everyone has access to safe, ample, and nourishing food.
