The video announces the new dates for Dubai Expo. The previous dates for the exhibition in Dubai were October 2020. However, the UAE government had raised a request to the General Assembly of the Bureau International des Expositions to postpone Dubai Expo 2020 to next year.
Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, Expo Dubai 2020 has been postponed instead. The global mega-event is now scheduled to take place from October 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022. The exhibition is determined to collaborate with the world and bring evolution.
The postponement allows all attendees to safely manage the effects of COVID-19. The new dates have allowed the event to focus on a common desire for innovative thinking.
The UAE Government requested the postponement in a letter written to Dimitri S. Kerkentzes, secretary-general of the Bureau International des Expositions, (BIE).
BIE mentioned in a statement, “In the letter, His Highness Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation of the UAE, seeks the postponement of the World Expo following in-depth discussions by the Expo Dubai 2020 Steering Committee with the Organiser and the BIE on the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and in solidarity with participating countries.”
The 173-day Expo was scheduled to take place from October 20, 2020, to April 10, 2021. It was planned to feature a wide range of architectural exhibitions. These included the iconic Al Wasl Plaza and themed pavilions, as well as 192 nation pavilions over its 4.38km2 site.
The worldwide mega-event Dubai expo 2020 dates will now reopen the gates from October 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022.
The head of the World Expo Dubai 2021 Higher Committee, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, said, “We have sought to build over the last 50 years bridges, connections, and partnerships around the world because we believe in genuine collaboration to safeguard the future of all. This swift and overwhelming vote reflects the strength of our international partnerships and truly reflects the positive role the UAE and Dubai play with all countries around the world."
The Dubai World Expo 2020 theme is "Connecting Minds, Creating the Future."
Hundreds of countries showcase their pavilions to display the newest in design and technology at expos held every five years.
Before postponed dates, the authorities expected over 25 million guests to arrive at the exhibition. However, the estimate may differ for the new dates.
Despite travel restrictions and recent lockdowns in some regions of Europe, Reem Al Hashimy, director-general of the Dubai Expo site, hopes to meet the pre-pandemic aims.
