All you need to know about Canada Electronic travel authorization (eTA).
Hello Viewers, welcome to our US and Canada Immigration News Channel.
Let’s begging with general Eligibility requirements.
To fly to or transit through a Canadian airport, you'll require a visiting visa or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). You don't need both; you only need one.
Who needs an eTA to travel to Canada?
You need an eTA,
If you're a visa-free foreign national going to or transiting through a Canadian airport.
If you are coming by vehicle, bus, train,
If you're a US lawful permanent resident going to or transiting via a Canadian airport,
You must present a valid Green Card and the valid passport used to apply for your eTA at check-in.
you also do NOT need an eTA when arriving by car, bus, train or boat, including a cruise ship.
If you are a Citizen from select visa-required countries, link mentioned below and you’re travelling to Canada by air.
However, you still need visitor visa (not an eTA) when arriving by car, bus, train, or boat, including a cruise ship.
Canadian citizens.
You must travel with a valid Canadian passport if you are a dual Canadian citizen.
A valid Canadian or US passport is required for American-Canadians to travel.
For Canadian permanent residents.
If you're a permanent resident of Canada, you won't require an eTA or a guest visa.
Traveling with a valid permanent resident card or permanent resident travel document is required.
Important information for former Canadian residents: The status of a permanent resident (PR) does not expire.
You may still hold PR status if you lived in Canada previously, even if it was many years ago.
To avoid travel delays, learn more in the link below.
For Visa-required travellers,
If you're a visa-required visitor, such as an alien with a passport or a stateless person, you don't need an eTA but a visitor visa is required for travel.
For Travellers who are exempt from the eTA requirement,
Citizens of the United States are exempt from the eTA requirement, but they must have adequate identification, such as a valid passport.
Basic requirements to enter Canada
To visit Canada, you'll need to complete a few prerequisites, including:
having a valid travel document, such as a passport, and an eTA or visiting visa that is valid,
To be eligible, you must be in excellent health and have no criminal or immigration-related convictions.
persuade a border services officer (BSO) that you have ties to your home country, such as a job, a residence, financial assets, or family.
persuade a BSO that you will leave Canada at the end of your visit and that you will have enough money to cover your expenses. (The amount of money required varies.) It depends on factors like how long you want to stay and if you'll be staying in a hotel or with friends or family.)
Inadmissibility.
An electronic travel authorization (eTA) does not guarantee entrance to Canada.
A border services officer will ask to view your passport and other documentation, such as a U.S. Green Card, when you arrive.
You must persuade the officer that you are qualified to enter Canada.
Involvement in criminal activity, human rights breaches, or organized crime, for example, can make you inadmissible.
