This Monsoon, in July we visited the Lepakshi Temple from Bangalore.
We started around 12pm and reached lepakshi around 2pm. It is a 2 hours drive from the city, but once you cross the Bangalore Airport, You will enjoy the road to the fullest. The Temple walls are engraved with deities like Ganesha, Lakshmi, Bhadrakali. It is fully craved in stones and also you will need a good 2-3 hours to see the temple completely.

BEST WAY TO REACH - By cab/ Personal Vehicle. But once you cross the Karnataka Border, You need to pay the road tax if you are travelling in a cab.
By Bus. Get down at the check post and take an auto/tempo going towards the temple.
ENTRY FEES - Free entry
BEST TIME TO VISIT - Early morning to avoid crowds and heat.
ADVISE - Do Carry a bottle of water and some food as there are very less shops nearby.
