Sikkim’s Chungthang Hydro-Dam Breach has arisen a grave concern for its people. As we all know that at least 14 people have been killed and over 102 others have been missing after the cloudburst over Lhonak Lake in north Sikkim has triggered flash floods in the Teesta River basin and has further led to the breach of Dam. It is to be noted that following the breach, 5.08 million cubic metres of water from the hydro reservoir was released, which is currently rushing down the mountains, causing concern among the locals as well as the tourists who have been stranded. The scale of this breach is a matter of grave concern, with potential consequences ranging from environmental damage to the displacement of residents downstream. The Chungthang Hydro-Dam break emphasises the significance of strong safety measures and regular maintenance in the hydroelectric sector, while authorities examine the situation and work to reduce the consequences of this disastrous rupture
