Fatemi Street (former name: Iran-Novin Street and Aria Mehr Street) is one of the central streets of Tehran. This street has an east-west direction and leads from the east to Valiasr street and from the west to Chamran highway.
The street is named after Dr. Hussein Fatemi, a member of the National Front and foreign minister in Dr. Mossadegh's cabinet, who was executed after the August 11 coup. Before the revolution, this street had other names such as Water Organization Street, Iran-Novin Street and Aria Mehr Street.
Fatemi Square is one of the main squares in Tehran, which is located on Fatemi Street. The old name of this square in the Pahlavi period was Poursina Square, Iran-Novin Square and after the collapse of the New Iran Party, Aria Mehr Square. The name of this square is derived from the name of Dr. Hossein Fatemi. Another name for this square is Jihad Square. One of the important buildings around this square is the building of the Water Organization. Noor Mosque with beautiful architecture is located in this square.
Heavy traffic in Fatemi Square, as one of the main and busiest squares in Tehran, in addition to turning this square into a large car park, has caused many problems for citizens to pass through this area of Tehran.
In addition to the centrality of Fatemi Square in the capital's traffic axes, the presence of the Iranian Ministry of Interior, administrative centers and offices of private and state companies in this area has caused a significant increase in the number of vehicles traveling in this part of the capital.
The building of the Ministry of Interior and the Great Hall of the country, which belongs to the Ministry of Interior of Iran, are located near this square. The Country Hall is one of the few large gathering centers for citizens to hold conferences, music concerts, gatherings and even charitable celebrations, which has brought traffic to the city from the capital almost every day, especially in the evenings.
