On December 26, 2004, Nagapattinam, a coastal town in southern India, was devastated by a massive Indian Ocean tsunami triggered by a powerful earthquake off the coast of Indonesia. With no warning system in place, the town was unprepared for the tsunami, which claimed over 6,000 lives in Nagapattinam and more than 226,000 across multiple countries. Survivors like Gandha, who lost her husband and son, still carry the emotional scars of that day. In the years since, significant efforts have been made to improve disaster preparedness, including building tsunami warning towers, creating seismic centers, and establishing escape routes. Despite these improvements, the emotional toll remains, with many survivors, including Gandha, struggling with the loss of loved ones.
