Jamie Lau, clinical professor of law at Duke Law School, is the supervising attorney for the Duke Law Wrongful Convictions Clinic and faculty adviser to the school’s Innocence Project. Professor Lau is the 2021 recipient of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice Kellie Crabtree Award for his successful exoneration of a wrongly-convicted client. Here he addresses the difficulties exonerees face as their new freedom begins as well as the systemic flaws leading to wrongful convictions.
