Peony Red Charm, one of the best and most stunning deep red peonies available on the market, surely deserves a spot in the garden of every person loving red flowers!!! With its gorgeous double flowered blooms, so intensely red, and huge (up to 22 cm in diameter, even if usually about 15 cm across), is not surprising at all that this variety is one of the most popular peonies of all, and is also one of the earliest to bloom, already in early June. Unfortunately for such a beautiful flower, its fragrance is extremely light and not particularly pleasant either, reminds me of freshly cut artichokes, a very weird scent, that I find quite common in several peonies. But the lack of a gorgeous fragrance to please your nose might not be that important, when you have such a big bright red flower to please your eyes!!! Even if I made the video on the 10th of June 2021 and forgot to upload it for a while, I decided to do it today because many online shops are now starting selling peonies for planting, and definitely I wanted to show this peony variety and its beautiful flowers, as I am sure that many of my viewers and followers will love it. As many other peonies, Red Charm needs to be planted quite shallow, with the "eyes" (the areas where new leaves are going to emerge) just a few cm below the surface, in full sun or at least partial shade, and in moist but well drained soil. In addition to the beautiful flowers, that unfortunately last less than two weeks, Peony Red Charm has beautiful leaves, from spring to early autumn, that remain very ornamental for many months. Red Charm can grow up to 90 cm tall, so it is ideal for the mid-border. Peonies are very hardy, they can be grown in USDA zones 3 to 8 so all around the UK as well as in many other temperate and cold climate countries.
