'Tulang Lindung' translates to 'bones of an eel'. What makes this work particularly unique is its use of the left hand in developing the melody; the right hand plays an ostinato. In most works for Gender Wayang, the right hand elaborates on what is played by the left. Furthermore, the melody played by the left hand of each of the players is formed by the rhythmic interspersion of notes, played concurrently by the 'sangsih' and 'polos' parts.
There exists many variations upon this particular set of bony remains; it finds its origin by being imitated note for note in part of a more complex but well-known Balinese work for Gender Wayang called 'Pemungkah'. This piece was actually transcribed for two pianos by Colin McPhee.
PERFORMERS : Jobert Van In (pemade/polos), Made Agus Wardana (pemade/sangsih), Danny Van Honste (kantilan/polos), Zachar Laskewicz (kantilan/sangsih)
