누리호 발사 D-7 항우연 "1,2,3단계 결합 완료해"
We're just a week away from the third launch of Nuri, South Korea's first fully home-grown space rocket.
And today, engineers successfully combined all of its three stages.
Our Song Yoo-jin explains the process and what's ahead until Nuri takes off.
It seems like final preparations are going smoothly for the third launch of South Korea's first home-grown space rocket Nuri.
According to the Korea Aerospace Research Institute, engineers on Wednesday successfully assembled all three stages of the rocket.
This follows the assembly of the rocket's top, third stage last week after satellites were installed.
This time, the two-hundred-ton vehicle will carry eight satellites, used for scientific research once in orbit.
This includes a next-generation small satellite invented by the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, which can record videos 5-hundred-50 kilometers above Earth even if the weather is rainy or cloudy.
The batch will also have a set of four weather-monitoring SNIPE satellites, the first set of satellites in the world capable of flying in formation.
The second launch last year successfully placed a dummy satellite and a performance-verification satellite into orbit.
But these satellites were not of practical use.
The first launch the year before failed to put a dummy satellite into orbit.
If no problems are detected after final inspections, Nuri will be sealed in case of rainfall.
On Monday, it will then board a special unmanned rocket transporter.
On Tuesday morning, one day before its launch, the transporter will deliver the vehicle to its launch pad at the Naro Space Center in South Korea's southern Jeollanam-do Province.
After final preparations, the launching committee will decide whether to follow the initial launch schedule of Wednesday at 6:24 PM.
Last year, the launch was postponed multiple times due to technical issues and the weather.
Once Nuri takes off, its success will be determined within 20 minutes.
The results will be announced around 80 minutes after blast-off.
