Mexican-American singer Jenni Rivera has died in a plane crash at 43.

The family of the artist affectionately known as "Diva de la Banda" confirmed to MTV that she was killed this weekend in a Learjet 25 that went down in Mexico's Nuevo Leon.

Known for her big voice, Rivera sold more than 15 million albums and had a slew of namesake cosmetic and clothing brands. She leaves behind five children.

After Rivera's plane was reported missing over the weekend, grief spread over the Latin-American music community. Jennifer Lopez had a typical tweet: "So sad ... Praying for Jenni Rivera's children and family and the passengers families."
