Property Violations
Tree limbs and branches cannot block sidewalks, streets or alleyways. Tree limbs must be at least 7 feet tall over sidewalks and 14 feet tall over streets and alleyways.
Dead landscaping is a cosmetic issue. If it does not block sidewalks, streets or alleyways, the City of Plano does not require the landscaping be removed.
Trees Between Properties
Nature often doesn’t respect property boundaries. Tree limbs overhanging from one private property to another are a civil issue between the two parties, not a code violation.
The City cannot provide legal advice or direction on a civil matter. We recommend that property owners work together to eliminate any concerns. In situations where that is not possible, property owners can choose to speak with legal counsel to evaluate their rights and possible options.
If the tree limb causes damage, it is a civil issue between the two property owners. They need to contact their insurance companies or legal counsel to discuss options.
Tree Debris Clean Up
The last important piece is whose responsibility it is to clean up tree debris. If a tree has fallen or limbs have broken into public rights-of-way such as public roads and sidewalks, contact the City of Plano through FixIt Plano. LINK: [ Ссылка ]
