STORYLINE:
Italian soldiers based in western province of Herat gathered on Thursday to attend a memorial ceremony for two Italian soldiers killed in a roadside bombing.
The bodies of the serviceman were flown back to Italy after a short ceremony at the city's international airport.
A defence ministry statement on Wednesday said that the two, members of a specialist bomb disposal team, were killed by a roadside bomb in Herat after successfully dismantling a similar device that had been pointed out to them by Afghan police.
Italy has suffered some 29 military deaths in Afghanistan, including the soldiers Wednesday and the suicide of another
soldier over the weekend in Kabul.
