Caramel baked honeycomb cake or kek sarang semut is a Malaysian dessert with distinctive honeycomb structure inside the cake. The use of caramel syrup gives this cake a wonderful sweet and smoky flavour, and creates the honeycomb-like effect inside.

Caramel syrup:
2 cups sugar
2 cups hot water
Cake:
250g butter
1 cup condensed milk
8 eggs, beaten
2 cups plain flour
1 tbsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla extract
