Can you get a decent photo of a nebula like M42 out of just a single exposure without stacking? I didn't think so but I tried and was quite surprised. Sure the result is not super clean but surprisingly good with no stacking and fancy processing and on top of that - shot under light polluted city sky (Bortle 7).
