This clip comes from a great episode of DS9, entitled “Second Skin”.
Giving a synopsis would spoil the plot so suffice it to say that Kira Nerys has been surgically altered and taken to Cardassia Prime, since she is supposedly an undercover agent of the Obsidian Order, named Iliana Ghemor. Legate Tekeny Ghemor, Iliana’s father, tries to rescue Kira while the agent from the order breaks her psychologically.
I have uploaded this video because as it exemplifies how good acting emotionally touches the audience. I have watched this episode several times over the years, and Nana Visitor’s wonderful performance touches me every time. Now, take the previous episode from DS9 (S03, E04, “Equilibrium”): the plot is, again, focusing on a character (this time Jadzia Dax). I don’t dislike Terry Farrell but I think her acting skills are far inferior or, at least, that her performance in that episode felt pretty flat.
