Hey, it's Ethan here at etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install Thule Wingbar Evo Roof Rack System with the towers and the crossbars on our 2021 Volkswagen Atlas. So you've got your Atlas, which does have a decent amount of storage in the back, but maybe you want to get some larger items up on your roof. Maybe you want to get a kayak where you want to go. Maybe you want some skis and snowboards. Maybe you just want a little bit of extra storage for some messier items.

You can get a roof box or a roof basket up on your roof. First, you're going to need the roof rack system, like we have here. Now luckily for the Atlas, we do have these raised rails that go front to back. So these are super easy to get on, and you can accommodate different crossbar spreads to accommodate different gear. The crossbars and the feet for the crossbars are both rated for up to 220 pounds of weight capacity, but as per the owner's manual of the Atlas, the roof permit only is 200 pounds.

So, and that's gonna factor in the weight of the crossbars and the feet. So you're only gonna be able to get up to 200 pounds, including the weight of the system as well as the gear that you're getting on there. Taking a closer look at the crossbars, we see that they do have that taper, that aerodynamic trail edge shape, so it's larger in the front and tapers down towards the back. This seems to cut down on some of that wind noise and some of that drag, but granted, anytime you put anything on your roof, you're gonna hear that a little bit. If we take a look inside, these end caps do fold up.

You see our rubber track, that opens up in the middle, so that's also gonna help cut down on some of that wind noise, and you can slide your T-track accessories through there, hold them in place without having to trim it up. Coming down to the clamps now, they're really easy to install, like I mentioned before, you just slide 'em in underneath the towers, and they hold on to our raised rails with that clamping mechanism, which we just tighten up using a bolt that's hidden under our end cap. Just to give you a quick idea of some measurements and what this is gonna do to your vehicle, so as far as overhang goes, we have 53-inch crossbars in our case. It's what they recommend for the fit for the Atlas. So from the front here we have about two and a half inches of overhang, and on the back, it's closer to three and a quarter inches of overhang.

So you honestly probably could step this up to the next length crossbars if you want a little bit more overhang to accommodate some different accessories. As far as the height added to your vehicle, the rails are gonna be the tallest part. So from the front here to the top of the crossbars is gonna be adding on about two and a half inches. So they are really low profile. They don't add very much height at all. This is just a measurement you're gonna wanna keep in mind as far as storing it in your garage or anywhere there might be clearance issues. As far as what the crossbars are made of, they are durable but lightweight. They're made of aluminum, and they've got that black powder coat finish, which should help them hold up better to UV rays, anything as far as rust, weather, corrosion. So you should be able to keep these up and on your rails for a long time. As far as that install goes, I have mentioned a couple times how easy it is, and it really is super straightforward with these raised rails on here, tons of room, and it's super quick and efficient.
