I visited Anza-Borrego California State Park last March. I went there to see the wildflowers, as they bloom abundantly in spring. Starting from Palm Springs, we took California Highway 86 and then Borrego Salton Sea Way from Salton City. Along the way, we enjoyed the wildflowers blooming by the roadside and marveled at the vast desert landscape.
Arriving at Borrego Spring, we found a decent amount of wildflowers, although not as many as expected. After exploring the wildflowers, we looked for a place to spend the night.
Heading back on Henderson Canyon Road, we aimed for Borrego Camp. Just before Borrego Salton Sea Way, there is a campground on the left side with restroom facilities. Although there aren't any other amenities, several RVs and cars were parked there.
Once you reach Borrego Salton Sea Way, you'll see a vast open space across the road. We plan to stay there tonight.
Shall we take a look around?
Although it's vast, there weren't many people staying there. The dirt road is rough but manageable even for two wheel drive vehicles. It takes a while to drive around, and you'll spot groups of campers gathering. Being renowned for off-road activities, Anza-Borrego Park attracts many off-road enthusiasts who gather in groups to enjoy the trails.
I like it here. It's secluded, with a refreshing view stretching far. As evening approaches, the scenery created by the setting sun behind the low-hanging clouds is mesmerizing.
Anza-Borrego is an excellent place for stargazing at night, certified by the International Dark-sky Association (IDA). Borrego Springs Village is known for minimizing light pollution, making it perfect for stargazing. Unfortunately, it rained on the day I visited, so I couldn't see the stars.
When I woke up the next morning, the weather had cleared up beautifully, as if the rain from last night feels like just a lie. We hit the road again. Would you like to see the road under the morning sunlight?
It can get very hot here in the summer, so it's best to avoid it. You won't have to worry much about finding a place to stay during other seasons in Anza-Borrego California State Park.
Thank you for watching
