Rendered in POV-Ray from an LXF using the LDD to POV-Ray converter, with build animation generated using my lego-animate program ([ Ссылка ]).
Not too much human time involved as I didn't generate the LXF myself - I sourced from the internet somewhere but unfortunately I can't remember where. The main thing I had to do was calculate the X/Z centre of the model so it rotated correctly.
I think the person who made the LXF used the order given in the Lego instructions, which explains why certain pieces spring from thin air as they were likely sub-steps (e.g. at 0:17). I have to admire the dedication of a person who builds a 4200 step model in LDD.
Took about three days to render 500 frames at 1680x1050 with altialiasing turned on. I used five machines of varying specs and my jerry-built render farm ([ Ссылка ]). The resulting animation was then cropped a little in VirtualDub.
