Most people are aware that injuries from falling are common for the “elderly.” What most people don’t know is that there are proactive steps people 50 and older can take to increase bone health and decrease the risk of falling – the leading cause of death from injuries among people 65 and older. The numbers are startling, with one-fourth of seniors dying within six months of fracturing a hip in a fall. Other than death, the profound effect of falling injuries often results in the deterioration of the function necessary for independent living.
As part of Ortho Four States’ Mission to Restore Quality of Life, we invited the community to this educational event about simple steps to proactive Bone Health and Falling Risk Prevention. Our presentation covered risk factors and the high-tech, easy, and painless testing available to assess the risk of falling, as well as the clinics we provide that promote bone health and prevent fall-related injuries among adults 50 and older.
